A Diversified Portfolio: Your Way To A Secured Retirement

What does it mean to have a diversified portfolio? I’m told and believe that the concept of a diversified portfolio is very misunderstood, so let’s take a look at it from a financial planner’s perspective.

After exhaustive research and a really great series of interviews, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • If your advisor is not making crystal clear what investments you have and how they are impacted by changes you make, then you need a new advisor.diversified portfolio 1

  • Create a pie chart with your advisor based on risk assessment. Everybody has different views on what is a comfortable amount of risk.

  • Base the proportions of stocks, bonds, equities, real estate etc… in your portfolio on your goals for lifestyle and retirement.

  • Be more aggressive if retirement is far off and more conservative as retirement gets close.

  • We live in a global economy now, so don’t be afraid of global investments.

The economy is moving very fast and is less predictable than ever, but if your realistic about your goals and have a great financial advisor to guide you along the way, you should do just fine.
